FRIENDS IN NEED Health Center Inc. opened its doors in 1995 when community leaders identified the need for healthcare services for the medically underserved people living and working in the greater Kingsport area. The community agencies involved included Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Junior League of Kingsport and several local churches. From those humble beginnings, the organization has grown from 500 patient visits in 1995 to over 4,000 in 2004

FRIENDS IN NEED serves the working uninsured in Sullivan and Hawkins counties in Tennessee and Scott County, Virginia. Twenty-five percent of our community falls into this segment of society and the numbers are rapidly growing. Some of those who fall into this 25 percent are working single-parent families; people who are working but do not have the income to purchase insurance, people who have jobs that don't provide insurance, people with part-time jobs, people with low-paying jobs, and people who are attempting to become self-sufficient while getting off government-assistance programs.
The mission of FRIENDS IN NEED Health Center Inc. is to provide regionally supported medical, dental and counseling care for the employed uninsured residents and members of their immediate families, of Sullivan, Hawkins and Scott counties. Our vision is to be a comprehensive integrated health center providing quality affordable services.
